The wares are formed on the potters’ wheel from a stoneware clay, and are often altered by cutting and reassembling parts to create compound forms. I use coloured slips of my own formulation for decoration on the unfired clay. I carve into the slips using sgraffito and also build up layers by painting and trailing. The decoration adds texture and becomes an integral part of the body of the piece.
